As the U.S. branch of Universidad Mayor in Chile, Nexus University reflects the spirit and ambition of the American dream. Our American journey has been, and continues to be driven by the pursuit of opportunity, the cultivation of an independent spirit and a commitment to aspirational achievement.
Our History
2010 – Universidad Mayor becomes the first Chilean university accredited in the U.S. by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
2017 – Nexus University opens in Miami as the first U.S. branch campus of Universidad Mayor, with regional accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
2018 – Nexus University is approved by the Commission for Independent Education to offer undergraduate and graduate degrees 100% online through anytime, anywhere collaboration.
2019 – Nexus University School of Health Science and Nursing starts its first classes on both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
2020– Nexus University nursing education program becomes a candidate for accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. Nexus University School of Business launches its Business programs.
2022– Nexus University nursing education baccalaureate and master’s nursing program becomes Initial Accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.

EXECUTIVE COUNCIL
The Executive Council is responsible for ensuring that Nexus University is operating in accordance with our stated mission. Its responsibilities include institutional oversight and policy development related to operations, student affairs, academics, admissions, curriculum, marketing, finance and more. In addition, the Council develops responses to emerging threats and opportunities, as well as developments in industry policy and legislation that could impact the University.
Dr. Mario F. Herane, DBA, MBA, MSF, M.Ed
Chancellor
As an executive academic leader, Dr. Mario Herane is proficient at leading institutional transformation, developing programming, curriculum, marketing and fostering institutional collaboration. He provides both holistic and practical solutions that improve student performance, build communications, and promote educational success that aligns with visionary strategies and the organizational mission, while upholding students as a school’s most important resource. Mr. Herane fosters changes that keep Nexus University ahead, directing institutional collaboration, upgrading strategic capabilities, and finding efficiencies that lead to solutions across departments.
Mrs. Carolina Alfaro Kuno
Vice-Chancellor of Finances and Administration
Carolina has been involved in the management, overseen, and control of finances and administration for multiple organization, including complex multi-stages projects, in the U.S. and abroad. With a deep understanding of processes and a strong background of Engineering, Mrs. Alfaro has been involved in the development of multiple initiatives, including global trade, services, agriculture, and education.
Shen holds a Bachelor in Industrial Engineering, and multiple specializations, including Entrepreneurship, Business Development, and Finances.

Director, School of Health Science & Nursing
Dr. Janie Bailey is the Dean of Academic Affairs and a valued leader in our community. Her wide-ranging experience includes university strategic planning and budgeting, forging institutional partnerships and working closely with governmental education agencies. Over the course of her distinguished career, Dr. Bailey has served in leadership roles on dozens of educational boards and committees, published original research and academic materials, qualified to practice nursing in six states and reached the rank of major in the U.S. Army Reserves, from which she was honorably discharged in 2012.
Dr. Luz Galdames Cabrera
Academic Liason for Nursing Programs in LATAM
Luz has served as an academic and leader in undergraduate and graduate Nursing programs. She has consistently collaborated with the Chilean Association of Nursing Education (ACHIEEN), initiating the National Nursing Exam project as a member of the Nursing Research Commission (CIENF). She is currently part of the Nursing Specialties Commission and coordinates the International Network of Nursing Care Management. She is the founder and president of the Scientific Society of Care Management in Chile. Over the past decade, she has promoted the socialization of disciplinary knowledge and the professionalization of nursing through publications, projects, and consulting in the field. She also serves as an institutional evaluator for the National Accreditation Commission (CNA).
